Sewing Classes

Beginner Sewing Class (no experience needed). Students will become familiar with basic sewing terminology, equipment and techniques through a series of simple projects to begin with. They will learn the parts of a sewing machine and how to perform basic sewing techniques. Afterward, they will be allowed to choose a project that will help them become more independent sewers after demonstrating basic proficiency.
On the first and third Friday of the month beginning on October 4th from 12:00-1:30.
Space is limited so if interested, please contact me with the following information:
Students name, age, a brief description of any prior sewing experience, and whether or not you have a sewing machine available to you.
roitersportsters@hotmail.com. I will get back to you with more detailed information.

Advanced Sewing Class (previous experience with sewing machine required). Students will be learning how to read and follow a pattern by developing the skills/techniques necessary to complete a basic pattern.
However, if the student has already followed a pattern, they will be allowed to choose a pattern that will challenge them. Note: I will give a review of the sewing machine and students will need to demonstrate proficiency with the basics beforehand!
A Sewing machine is needed, if you don’t have one but are interested, please contact me and I can try to find you one. If you have one but aren’t real familiar with it, please bring the instruction books with you so I can become familiar with your model.

*If you have already called, please contact me again through email so I so I can familiarize myself with each child’s name and ability level and your email address.*

NOTE: I know we are very busy as homeschoolers. After the first two classes, I am very flexible about attendance and times. Come when you can and learn what you can. Don’t feel if you can’t commit to every class that you can’t join us. Please contact me if you are in this situation.

A special note: I taught sewing for six years as part of a required curriculum that I wrote in an inner city public school setting at the middle school level. I have worked with severely disabled students, both mentally and physically, so if you have any questions regarding your child’s ability to participate, please contact me.

Thanks, Dawn Roiter

I had emailed Dawn Roiter about the beginner sewing class. Initially, I did hear from her and she had said she put my daughter on the list. She had said she would send me along the info and there would be another email regarding supplies. I have not heard anything back in these regards. If dawn could email me with this information, that would be great. I do not want to drive 30 minutes up to the schoolhouse on Friday for class unprepared.

    Thanks,
    Tracey

    • Hi Tracey, I’ll forward this note to her. I know she had accidently deleted her email contacts so she had sent a few posts out asking for everyone interested to recontact her…that’s probably why you haven’t heard anything.
